"Inaugural" New York Rock N Roll 10K

This morning I ran my first official 10K run, the Rock N Roll 10K in Prospect Park, Brooklyn.

I had already picked up my shirt and bib the night prior to the race, so I didnt have to worry about doing that the morning of the race.  Which happened to be a smart decision because this race had an early start time of 7:30AM (which got changed to 7:40AM because of delays at bib pickup/registration)

The temps were in the low 50's and I wore running pants with a long sleeved tech which served me well this run.  I didnt feel overly dressed and didnt overheat during the run.  Usual pre-race meal of whole wheat toast with nutella.

This race I was going to do something for the first time, run with a running partner!  The night before I spoke with my friend Beth and we discussed the race and our goals, and figured we should just run together.  We had decided prior to the race to run using intervals of 3 min/1 min at about an 11:30/12:00 pace with a 1:15 finish as a goal.

I got to the corral at around 7AM and met up with Beth.

As I mentioned before, the race was scheduled to start at 7:30 AM, but it got pushed to 7:40 AM.  We crossed the starting mat at about 7:45 AM.  The course was 2 loops around Prospect Park, and both loops had a pretty badass hill which the last time I ran a race in the park gave me a hard time.  This time out I knew how to handle this hill, and both times past it, we made it thru without much issue.  We kept a good pace throughout the race and we were determined to finish it together!  Here are our splits:
MILETIMEAVG.PACE
111:4811'48"/mi
224:0712'19"/mi
335:3311'26"/mi
447:5812'25"/mi
51:00:5012'52"/mi
61:12:4811'58"/mi

Beth crossed the finish line just before me, ladies first of course! :)

Finish time ---  1:15:29  Pace --- 12:09/m

  5. I'm so glad you did so well. I also ran my first 10K race this weekend and finished in almost the exact same time! I also run 3:1 intervals and had my sister as a running partner. We're kindred spirits. :) Good luck with the next race!
